Chamber music Dorothy Irving Scholarship External organiser: Dorothy Irvings Stipendiefond Award-winning lieder with Duo Lorenzen-Ekberg. The legendary concert singer and educator Dorothy Irving (1927–2018) left a powerful impression on the Swedish music scene. Her artistry was bold and meticulous, with a deep dedication to the expressive power of lyrics and music. Before they passed away, she and her husband Lars Fjellstedt founded a scholarship administered by the Royal Swedish Academy of Music to “promote and preserve the art of the lied.” The scholarship is now being presented for the second time and goes to Duo Lorenzen-Ekberg, comprising soprano Kathrin Lorenzen and pianist Oskar Ekberg: “for their breathtaking lightness and cooperative, playful and in-depth presentation of historic and human dimensions in a modern, international vocal repertoire, and for revealing the existential depth of Scandinavian lieder.”

Hillary the Witch Goes to the Opera is a playful and exciting performance about opera and is recommended for families with children aged 5–10. Hillary the Witch wins tickets to a performance at The Göteborg Opera, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary. She has no idea what “opera” is and searches for the word. It appears to be something in which people are constantly singing. Hillary conjures up the singer Maria Bellacanta, who takes us and the witch on a journey into the magical world of opera. Pieces from Die Zauberflöte, Die Fledermaus, Hänsel und Gretel and other well-known operas and operettas that have been performed at the Göteborg Opera over the years are woven into the story. Le nozze di Figaro is a whirlwind of love, desire and complications, and a portrayal of the demise of the old system. Mozart’s iconic comedy is one of the world’s best loved operas. We now present it in a completely new production, made by the same creative team that created Il barbiere di Siviglia in spring 2024. The characters are older, less naïve, more world weary and decadent, but very human.

Peter Grimes Opera in three acts by Benjamin Britten (1913–1976). Libretto by Montagu Slater, based on a story by George Crabbe. Britten’s first, foremost and most popular opera is a masterpiece that shines a spotlight on mistrust, guilt and vulnerability in closed communities. Eugen Onegin, med undertiteln lyriska scener, handlar om en självisk och blaserad ung man som under återstoden av sitt liv får ångra att han nonchalant avvisar en ung kvinnas kärlek och vårdslöst framkallar en duell med sin bästa vän, med dödlig utgån
